WHAT IS IFRS 16?
The new IFRS 16 accounting standard is effective 1 January 2019. The new IFRS 16 requirements eliminate nearly all off balance sheet accounting for lessees. The new standard requires lessees to recognise leases on the statement of financial position which will reflect their right to use an asset for a period of time and the associated liability for rental payments. Tracking leased assets is now a complex and critical function.
